Tenovus Cancer Care
In March 2016 we received a phone call from a friendly member
of the Tenovus Cancer Care Team. They were embarking on a project to fit out a
brand-new mobile support unit and were looking for someone to design a donor
recognition tree, to be installed within it. Little did we know what a long and
fulfilling journey we were about to take with them.
Tenovus Cancer Care Tree |
Initial designs were submitted, along the lines of what we
already produced, albeit in totally different materials and cheerful colours to
match the Tenovus Cancer Care brand. The idea would be a tree made from
Acrylic, or something similar, to be fastened flat against the inside wall of
the unit. To this tree would be fastened individual plaques in the shape of
leaves, acorns and boulders. Nothing beyond the capability of Metallic
Garden.
Mounted in a moving frame |
Although the concept of a donor recognition tree was still
very much the focus, the function of the tree was now changed to include that
of a dividing screen, able to be moved and stowed away at the side of the
vehicle when appropriate. This tree would need to be translucent, but opaque
enough to provide sufficient privacy and be double sided, to allow plaques to
be installed on both sides. This was becoming an engineering challenge, one
which we would rise to, to help fulfill the vision.
A suitable frame was designed by the engineers fitting out
the vehicle. This would provide the stability and maneuverability needed for a
tree measuring 2 metres across and almost as tall. We were tasked with creating
the tree to the required design, whilst maintaining both strength and remaining
within certain weight limits.
Ideas went back and forth for months, as we swapped and
changed ideas. Colours were looked at as we matched the branding as best we
could with the materials available. Plaques were altered to get the best look
possible. Materials were chosen for strength and weight. Finally, after more
than 2 years, Tenovus were ready to place the order and we could proceed.
Everything was
delivered without a hitch and on schedule.
Tenovus Mobile Unit |
The Tenovus Cancer Care mobile unit was completed on time
and delivered to them in July 2018 This will enable them to facilitate even
more chemotherapy treatments and continue their fantastic work. Metallic Garden
are proud to have played a small part in this and wish them all the very best
for the future.
